The Market Analyst researches and studies market conditions for collectible coins and/or paper money and coordinates with a network of external market experts to track and maintain market values and descriptive data of those coins and/or notes, which is logged into a customized database. In addition, the Market Analyst writes and edits content for auction previews, auction results and new coin and/or paper money issues or discoveries, which is published on the brands’ websites and in print publications. This position reports to the General Manager – Collectibles.
Professional Responsibilities
- Assigns identification numbers to new listings using proprietary numbering system
- Gathers and enters new coin listings into database system and makes daily updates to existing data
- Researches market trends and precious metals pricing and adjusts coin and/or paper money valuations accordingly
- Manages relationships with 100+ external data and pricing contributors from around the globe and fosters the flow of data in and out of the database with these contributors
- Writes and edits content for print and web covering auction previews, auction results, new issues or discoveries and relevant hobby news
- Liaises with database program developers, communicating system problems as well as needed enhancements and trains new staff or temporary help to use coin and paper money database system to ensure all work is done in a timely manner
- Coordinates with editorial team to ensure Coin of the Year entries are made in database prior to nomination meeting and actively participates in the Coin of the Year awards process as needed/assigned.
Professional Qualifications
Professional demeanor is a must for all positions at Active Interest Media. In addition to courteous, friendly, businesslike behavior, the following qualifications are fundamental to this position
- BS/BA in Communications, English or other relevant degree.
- Minimum of five years’ experience editing or researching.
- Proficient with use of AP style, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and InDesign), and Microsoft Office 365 strongly preferred.
- Interest in coin or paper money collecting, as well as history in general would be beneficial to the ideal candidate.
- Must be able to research online and communicate both written and verbally with domestic and international contacts to acquire needed coin or paper money data. This includes Mint Directors, Bank Directors, Marketing Directors and Pricing Analysts.
- Precise data entry skills a must. Attention to detail is absolutely essential.
- Membership in professional organizations such as the American Numismatic Association, International Bank Note Society or local coin clubs are a plus.
- Employee must be adaptive, hard-working, well organized, able to multi-task and manage their time well to ensure all deadlines are met. Must be a team player, but also able to work independently.
